Brazil and Argentina, two of the largest beef-producing countries in the world, successfully lobbied for the elimination of plant-based food recommendations that were included in a previous version of the recently released Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. The previous version, leaked by climate group Scientist Rebellion, recommended a shift to plant-based diets to “reduce GHG emissions by up to 50%.” According to documents obtained by Greenpeace’s investigative outlet, Argentinian Secretary for Climate Change Rodrigo Rodriguez Tornquist requested elimination of the entire paragraph.
