Grant County, New Mexico voted against renewing a contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services (“Wildlife Services”) for the killing of wild carnivores and feral cattle at the behest of the livestock industry. Commissioners articulated their view that Wildlife Services was not adhering to its contractual obligation to utilize non-lethal wildlife management whenever possible.
