The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) submitted a petition for rulemaking to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) urging NMFS to protect the great hammerhead shark under the Endangered Species Act. CBD claims that the distinctive shark’s global population has declined more than 80% in the past seven decades.
