BLM Faces Endangered Species Act Lawsuit over Geothermal Power Plant Construction in Nevada

The Center for Biological Diversity (“CBD”) and the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe (“Tribe”) have sent a formal notice of intent to sue the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (“BLM”) and Ormat Technologies, a Reno-based geothermal company, to halt construction of the Dixie Meadows geothermal power plant. According to an emergency Endangered Species Act listing notice published by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on April 7, 2022, the project poses a significant risk of extinction to the Dixie Valley toad. CBD and the Tribe intend to file a citizen suit under the Endangered Species Act unless BLM and Ormat immediately cease all Dixie Meadows construction activity.
