Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has signed into law Senate Bill 1412 which will prohibit anyone previously convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment from serving as an “owner, director, officer, manager, operator, member of staff, or animal caregiver” at pet shops, dealers, and breeders. The bill will also require such establishments to obtain a signed statement from any potential employee stating that the person has never been convicted of such violations.
