Rhode Island Bill Would Prescribe Disposition of Animals Rescued from Unattended Vehicles

Rhode Island Senate Bill 319 would authorize a law enforcement officer to hold an animal rescued from an unattended vehicle for up to 72 hours or until the date of the arraignment if the officer reasonably believes the animal requires any additional medical treatment or observation. The bill would also authorize the district court to determine if and when the animal’s guardian may retrieve the animal and the amount the person must pay for the impounding and medical care of the animal.
