An Exchange of Minds between the UK and India on Animal Law
This event is a collaboration of several Student Ambassadors from A-Law's Student Group both in England as well as India. On the occasion of Earth day, the panel will be graced by Ms. Gauri Maulekhi- Trustee, People For Animals India and Mr. Duncan McNair- CEO, Save The Asian Elephants (STAE) on 22nd April, 1.30 pm (BST) (6.30 pm (IST)).
Gauri Maulekhi is a well known animal rights activist based in India. She is the Trustee of ‘People for Animals’, India's largest animal welfare organization where she has led successful campaigns for animal rights, the biggest of which included the campaign against the practice of sacrificial slaughtering of cattle. She has been felicitated and recognised by the government multiple times and was recently awarded the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’, the highest civilian award for women in India in 2018.
Duncan McNair founded Save The Asian Elephants ("STAE”), a coalition of politicians, academics, lawyers, field experts and campaigners working to protect the Asian elephant from abuse and extinction. He has addressed many influential audiences on the issues arising and solutions formulated by STAE in liaison with specialists in India, the UK and worldwide.
He also speaks and publishes widely on issues relating to animal welfare in the context of food production, distribution and retail and problems associated with livestock supply chains. In 2018 Duncan was named Winner of the Animal Hero of the Year award at the Animal Star Awards, which attracted 850 nominations nationally.
