INDUSTRIAL ANIMAL AGRICULTURE IN THE U.S. AND CHINA: PATHWAYS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR OVERSIGHT
The U.S.-Asia Partnerships for Environmental Law and the Animal Law and Policy Institute at Vermont Law and Graduate School and Koguan School of Law at Shanghai Jiaotong University have partnered on a year-long project to examine the local and global impacts of factory farming. The project involves collaborations between students, faculty, and subject-matter experts from around the world through research seminars and webinars that will result in a legislative proposal.
Industrial animal agriculture has devastating impacts on the environment, public health, and animal welfare, and has largely eluded legal oversight. This panel will lay out potential policy frameworks and pragmatic opportunities for oversight of industrial animal agriculture to address these impacts in the United States and China.
