A federal judge in Minnesota approved over $13 million in attorney fees, in connection with a $42 million settlement with Smithfield Foods. The settlement concerns multidistrict litigation brought by the restaurant industry and pork purchasers over an alleged scheme within the meat industry to inflate the price of pork. The settlement covers “[a]ll entities who indirectly purchased Pork from Defendants or coconspirators or their respective subsidiaries or affiliates in the United States from January 1, 2009 until April 19, 2022 for their own business use in commercial food preparation.”
