Animal rights groups are calling for action after a man from Sept-Îles, Quebec, shared on social media a video of him running over a young moose with his pick-up truck, an act which appeared to be intentional. Quebec provincial police (SQ) identified the man, who may face criminal charges. SQ spokesperson Nancy Fournier states that the SQ has built a case and passed it on to the prosecutor. Pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada, anyone “causing unnecessary suffering” to an animal may be imprisoned for a maximum of five years or receive a fine of up to $10,000 depending on the offence. The legal outcome of the incident is still to be determined.
