Italy Bans the Killing of Male Chicks in Egg Industry

The Italian Chamber of Deputies passed a ban on the killing of male chicks in the egg industry. The vote on the ban resulted in 346 votes in favour, 10 against, and 10 abstentions. Animal Equality reports that anywhere from twenty-five million to forty million male chicks are killed each year in Italy. The ban will come into force in 2026.
