On a recommendation from the Minister of the Environment, Canada will continue monitoring several species of caribous under the Species at Risk Act. The first species of caribou, being the Woodland Caribou (Southern Mountain population), was listed as threatened in 2003. Since then, over fifteen other species have been considered under the legislation. The current recommendation seeks further information about the status of Caribou (Rangifer tarandus) Northern Mountain population, Central Mountain population, and Southern Mountain population.
