The City of Toronto, Ontario, began the UrbanHensTO pilot program in March 2018 which allowed certain registered households in Toronto to keep up to four hens for the purposes of “enjoyment and egg production.” The keeping of hens for consumption, and the keeping of roosters was prohibited. In December 2020, the program was extended until March 2022. With the end of the extension coming up, the City of Toronto is reviewing the program and developing a final report with recommendations for the future. The reviewing process included a public survey, which closed on 11 February 2022. Read more about the City’s program here, and read about Animal Justice’s position here.
