Norway Bans Breeding Certain Bulldogs Because of Health Concerns

A landmark judgment from Norway’s Oslo District Court has ruled that breeding bulldogs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a violation of Norway’s Animal Welfare Act. The case was brought by the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Animals, in which they successfully argued that the man-made health problems which result from breeding have been well known and demanded a judicial finding of a welfare violation. Although the judgment does not prevent cross-breeding, it is an important first step for harmful breeding practices. Read more here.
