Rhode Island Bans Intentional Release of Balloons

In order to help protect wildlife and marine animals, Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKee has signed into law House Bill 5376, banning the intentional release of ten or more balloons filled with gas that is lighter than air. The law contains exemptions for a balloon released for scientific or meteorological purposes on behalf of a governmental agency, a hot air balloon that is recovered after launching, and a balloon that is released and remains indoors.
