California Bill Would Ban Cultivation and Sale of Octopuses for Human Consumption

California Assembly Bill 3162 would prohibit the “propagation, cultivation, maintenance, or harvest of any species of octopus for the purpose of human consumption” and would prohibit “the sale in the state of octopus that is the result of an aquaculture activity.” It also would define “aquaculture activity” to include, among other things, “the use of land-based recirculating aquaculture systems.” The bill has not yet been referred to a committee.
