FWS Finds Against Listing Gray Wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains and Western United States Under ESA

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) found that neither gray wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains (NRM) nor in the Western United States are eligible for Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing. FWS found that the population of gray wolves within the NRM is not a distinct population segment and thus not a “valid listable entity.” It also found that, while the population of gray wolves in the Western United States is a listable entity, that population does not fall within the definition of an endangered or threatened species.
