UN Report Finds Cultivated Foods Present No Greater Risks than Conventionally Produced Foods

The United Nations’ World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization released a landmark report on novel foods cultivated from cells, finding that potential risks to human health are no greater than those of conventional food. The report relays the results of research by a team of twenty-three experts on cell-based foods who synthesized evidence on the potential risks in the processes used to produce these novel foods. The expert panel found around fifty food hazards that also exist in conventionally produced foods but can be mitigated before posing a consumer health and safety risk.
