Food and Farm Act Would Require More Humane Treatment of Farmed Animals

House Resolution 1824 the “Food and Farm Act,” would provide for agricultural reforms, including investing in research programs relating to sustainable agriculture and realigning U.S. Department of Agriculture research and organic programs to further the humane treatment of farmed animals. The bill was introduced by Representative Earl Blumenauer and has been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture. The bill is endorsed by multiple environmental and animal protection groups including Farm Sanctuary, Humane Society Legislative Fund, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Center for Biological Diversity.
