USDA Links Rise in Anaerobic Digesters to Carbon Credit Incentive Programs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service (ERS) reported that the number of on-farm anaerobic digesters has steadily increased, from significantly fewer than 50 in 2000 to 322 in 2021. The ERS attributes the growth to an “increased demand for renewable fuel as a result of carbon credit trading and incentive programs.”
