Tyson Foods reported that it is closing broiler chicken and hatching operations in Glen Allen, Virginia, and Van Buren, Arkansas on May 12, 2023. The two facilities collectively employ more than 1,600 people and many of Tyson’s regional contract chicken growers may become bankrupt. The closures are the latest in a series of decisions the company has made to consolidate operations following a 68% drop in operating income in the first fiscal quarter of the year.
