Wisconsin Considers Increasing Penalties for Grievous Bodily Harm to Animals

Wisconsin Senate Bill 366 would make intentionally causing grievous bodily harm or death to an animal a Class H felony and make intentional acts that a person knows or should know could cause grievous bodily harm or death to an animal (regardless of whether such harm or death occurs) a Class I felony. The bill would also mandate that a person convicted with such a felony shall not be allowed to own, possess, reside with, or train any animal for a period of up to 15 years. The bill would also exempt authorized “training or hunting” practices from the prohibition on mistreating animals.
