FWS Adopts New Approach for Allowing Eagle Fatalities at Wind Energy Facilities under Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act

The Fish and Wildlife Service has announced the adoption of “a more risk-tolerant approach” for the initial permitted take number for bald eagles killed by wind energy facilities. The new approach is based on the availability of an updated collision risk model for estimating eagle fatalities at wind energy facilities that incorporates prior information on eagle exposure and eagle collision probability.
