Humane societies, SPCAs, animal shelters and rescues are society’s safety nets for animals, but we can’t discredit the role that human-animal bond plays in supporting people and the role the community plays in supporting these organizations. The COVID-19 pandemic was a perfect example of this. To prevent the spread of the virus, most shelters and animal care workers limited services and changed their operations to maintain physical distancing. Anticipating a shortage of staff and limited operations, shelters called on their communities for support, and those communities stepped up to help on an unprecedented level. As a result of this, animal welfare organizations across the globe were given the opportunity to review the importance of maintaining the human-animal bond and in keeping families and pets together.
Join us on June 17th to learn from experts from across the continent on the important connection between animals, community members and animal sheltering organizations.
