WILLIE KAUPIKO, KA‘IMI KAUPIKO, MIKE NAKACHI, FOR THE FISHES, CENTER FOR BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY, AND KAI PALOA v. BOARD OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES, STATE OF HAWAI‘I AND DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, STATE OF HAWAI‘I

File
Description

A coalition of environmental groups, fishermen, and individuals have filed suit against the State of Hawaii’s Department of Natural Resources alleging that the state’s approval of a pet trade group’s environmental impact statement violates state law. The acceptance of the EIS would permit commercial aquarium collectors to commence extraction in certain areas for the first time since the Hawaii Supreme Court enjoined such collection in 2017. The EIS was prepared by the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC).
