Sentencing in R v Dodd (2021 ONCJ)

Ryan Todd was convicted of break & enter and attempted bestiality in July 2021 after he broke into a barn and was caught by Ontario Provincial Police behind a female horse with personal lubricant on both himself and the horse. Note: Dodd was charged before the June 2019 amendment to the Criminal Code bestiality provision. Dodd has now received a sentence of two years conditional sentence and three years probation. Because he was charged before the legislative change in 2019, he received the Charter benefit to the lesser sentence, and therefore an animal prohibition was not available.
