Alberta SPCA Flooded with Distress Calls Amid Deep Freeze

During a recent extreme cold spell, the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) received an unprecedented surge in phone calls, logging over seventy new cases of animals in distress in just five days. The increase was largely driven by worries about animals enduring severe outdoor weather conditions. According to Dan Kobe, spokesperson for the Alberta SPCA, the investigations during this period were evenly distributed between livestock and companion animals.
